Montagu
Nestled between rugged mountains in the Western Cape, Montagu is one of South Africa’s oldest and most charming small towns. The scenic Cogmanskloof Pass provides a spectacular gateway into the town.
Situated along the famous Route 62, it’s known for its warm hospitality, dramatic rock formations, and beautifully preserved Cape Dutch architecture.
Montagu began as a farming community in the 1800s and still carries that quiet, old-world feel. Whitewashed cottages, vine-covered verandas, and historic buildings line its streets. The town is surrounded by orchards and vineyards, making it part of a productive agricultural region famous for dried fruit and wine.
Montagu has a vibrant creative spirit, with local artists, makers, and food producers contributing to its relaxed, community-driven atmosphere. It’s a place where time slows down, and is ideal for visitors seeking history, nature, and a taste of authentic small-town South Africa.
