Aasvoëlskrans Hiking Trail

I took a walk up part of the Aasvoëlskrans hiking trail, which starts from very near where I live. I’ll hike further next time, but in the early morning, when the light will be better suited for some photos, and not so hot.

One gets an exceptional view over the Montagu town and valley. Here are some pics. I’ll add more as and when..

Aasvoël is Afrikaans for vulture, and, in this instance, probably refers to our highly endangered Cape Vulture (Gyps coprotheres), also known as Cape griffon and Kolbe's vulture.

The Aasvoëlkrans path follows the poles up the mountainside, before veering off to the right.

View of the Montagu town and valley. The surrounding towns, such as Ashton and Robertson, are suffering from acute water shortages, so Montagu comes to the rescue, as it has water to spare.

And there were even some poles at the top to make me happy!

One has to wonder how the poor souls managed to get them all the way up here, though!

Aasvoëlskrans is also a great place from which to view a full moonrise.
