Plastic Pollution, Photos Taken at St Helena Bay

Plastic is everywhere, touching nearly every aspect of our lives. It is the most ubiquitous and mundane material, yet it poses such a significant environmental challenge.

Every day, the equivalent of 2,000 garbage trucks full of plastic are dumped into the world's oceans, rivers, and lakes. Plastic pollution is a global problem. Every year 19-23 million tonnes (!) of plastic waste leaks into aquatic ecosystems, polluting lakes, rivers and seas. Source..

But it gets worse, if that’s even possible- now it’s raining plastic! Source..

I have just read about this wonderful initiative in Australian schools, called “Clean Up Australia” Schools Litter Sculpture Competition. Other countries, including ours, should follow this example.

I have another trashy post, euphemistically called Litterati..

Mere metres from the ocean.

This plastic bag escaped the clutches of the razor wire, not far to go, now.

Someone forgot to take down their Xmas tree..

Trash, moving inexorably towards the ocean with every gust. St Helena Bay rubbish depot needs to clean up its act!

Just shocking!

If it weren’t for this pesky fence..

No words required..

But for the razor wire, this would all be in the sea already, blowing up to Elands Bay and beyond..

Slowly breaking down, slowly moving toward the ocean, slowly making its way into some creature’s gullet.

In the Karoo, near Willowmore.

Peter has created a micro business recycling glass and plastic.

Even though he’s almost blind, Prilly survives off his cardboard recycling business. Read my post about Prilly & Lena here..

Recycle, every bit helps!
