South African F1 Powerboat Grand Prix, 2025.
A Festive Day at The Races, St Helena Bay Harbour. Everything from Ducks, to Hard Bottoms, to the Formula One Powerboat Grand Prix!
I ain’t no petrolhead, but this was thrilling to watch!
(High-res images are available on request.)
First up, the Ducks..
Then the Hard Bottoms..
Winners fist pump.
Time for the F1s!
My daughter watching proceedings with her dog, which wasn’t such a great idea, so we quickly nipped back home, dropped him off..
..much to his displeasure..
..and returned in time to see a few warmup laps.
The grunty sound of those fine-tuned engines is unbelievable! A small sample in the vid above, and that’s just idling! Talk about a throaty roar!
Here’s a link to someone else’s vid of the start of a heat..
The current SA F1 champion, Keagan Frankiewicz.
The weather conditions were perfect!
Keeping cool with the hood up. I imagine it must get pretty hot in there. From canary yellow to..
.. lumo pink, it was a colourful affair! Hanging around before the start of the F1 race, keeping the engines warm.
Under Starter’s Orders..
.. and they’re off!
..like bats out of hell!
A good friend, Ant Usher, (MEC Engineering), used to do the tuning for SA icon, Peter Lindenberg way back, before Anthony and his family immigrated to the States.
Serious dicing, races within races. Remarkable the tight turns these guys can make without flipping!
Winner Bruce Repsold storming to victory in the St Helena Bay Grand Prix, winning all three heats in his Wraptors-sponsored DAC F1 boat. In 2nd place, current F1 champion Keagan Frankiewicz, and Wynand De Jager won 3rd place.
That’s all for now. Thanks for the great entertainment all you speedsters, what a lekker day!
