Tyres, a Massive Blight on The Planet..
Hypocritical of me, I’m as dependent on car tyres as the next, but conflicted nonetheless.
Did you know: About 3 billion new tyres are produced each year, and approx 800 million tyres become waste annually! Tyres are one of the world’s largest environmental pollutants and health hazards.
I saw this distressing Youtube video recently, of a sea-lion saved from a life shortened by a tyre-necklace. (And boy, do we know about the euphemism “necklace”, here in South Africa!)
While waiting to have my tyres changed, this cloud burst, sending everyone running for cover..
Repurposed as a fishing net, but now discarded, shifting up and down the beach in concert with the tides.

So many tyres littering the shore..
Old tyres are everywhere.
Tyre cemetery..
A farmer repurposing..
Pre-loved tyres.. ;)
No longer able to even function as a quay-side buffer, or a home for mussels.
What to do with these worn-out tractor tyres? I know, why not dump them on the beach..
If Elon Musk could apply his fortune and attention closer to earth, finding an alternative and a disposal solution to toxic tyres, it would be money well spent.
