Dogs, this man’s best friend!

I love all creatures, but dogs I love the most!

Friends dogs, family dogs, my dogs, stray dogs, many dogs..!

I’ll start with my recently departed, beloved, remarkable mensch of a dog, Bruno, better behaved than some humans I know, including myself! He was 13, a good innings for an Airedale, but didn’t need to go the way he did. He deserves a dedicated post, which will happen. Sunset, looking longingly at the beach, Misty Cliffs.

Dear friend Sylvie’s dog. Wilderness.

The Lady With 7 Dogs. Trijntje de Jonge, Kommetjie. Photo taken using ICM technique.

I did try to explain to Bruno that this is no ordinary stick..! Lambro is impressive with his boomerang skills, and camera, for that matter. Noordhoek.

Like a little Fu Manchu, he was the spitting image of a Rescue dog we had years ago. They’re called Boomers, and Hollywood loves them as they’re intelligent and obedient. Hopefield.

On duty. One second later, enjoys a sliver of biltong :)

Forlorn. Karoo.

Friend Derek, with his two dogs, Mufasa and Sheba, along with Bruno. Noordhoek.

Rafiki, Derek’s Jack Russell, hung in there until he was 18! Samsung A52

Friend Rory’s two dogs, and now he has a third matching pooch, so this photo needs updating. And don’t underestimate these two, they go up Chapman’s Peak at least once a week!

Some township specials. This little pack roam freely here.. St Helena Bay.

Not a great cellphone photo, but it’s not about that. On my travels, getting closer to Cape St Francis, I noticed this stray walking on the side of the highway, in the middle of nowhere. These stray, probably abandoned dogs are often traumatised, and very wary of humans. But not this sweet, mange-ridden, emaciated dog; he came readily when I called him. He hungrily devoured some of Bruno’s food, while I phoned ahead to my friends and, in turn, the nearest SPCA in Humansdorp, who kindly remained open late to receive this poor thing. If my circumstances were different, I would have kept him.

Another friend, Neil Preyer’s dog. I gave the photo a painterly makeover..

I can do this for your photo’s too, if you wish. See here..

Continuously digging, his ball in the hole. Bruno had youthful exuberance his whole life.

Bruno was such a good model, in more ways than one. He was also my wingman, he had my back when taking photos in dodgy places. He came everywhere with me, riding shotgun. Airedales are the largest of the Terriers, and he was my fourth, but probably my last.

I was sorely tempted to buy one of these Pitbull pups, but after +- 35 years with a dog or two in my company, I’m having a break for now.. St Helena Bay.

My sister’s Africanus, Sophie, on her last legs. She passed a few weeks after this photo was taken, after many years of loyal friendship. Langebaan.

Another of Sylvie’s three dogs, Alex, looking longingly at the dam. That swim will have to wait! George.

Anon.. Calitzdorp.

Down at that level, the sand must have been blinding! Noordhoek.

The friendliest Pittie ever, who belonged to the shop owner. He jumped up on my car door to greet me, scratching it, but what’s one more on my old bakkie, just adding some more character. I was visiting Paleisheuwel, following in the footsteps of an artist I admire, John Kramer, brother of well-known South African musician, David Kramer.

Reclaiming ownership of the shop. Ebenhaezer.

If looks could kill..! St Helena Bay

Well, she tried, lunging at me while I was talking to her owner, and almost garrotted herself in the process! It was hurriedly taken, hence the out-of-focus shot.

Lady with her loyal pet. Heidelberg.

Bruno intrigued by the curious fish that were intrigued by him. Cedarberg.  Samsung A52

A Push-You-Pull-Me.. Langebaan.

Scamp’s Day Out.. Langebaan.

Some Masiphumelele locals..

This dog was blind, but still able to warn of stranger danger.

My friend Glenn’s noble and aging Anatolian Shepherd, Tricolo, aka Trix. My dog never got introduced to Trix, the meet-’n-greet would have probably lasted about five seconds!

My dear daughter Erin, with her rather protective Africanus, Chacha. Noordhoek.

Dog In Chains. Poor dog bound to a life of chains, puppy looking on from its barrel. :( Karoo somewhere..

Siblings with their Jack Russell. All children should have a well-treated dog in their lives. St Helena Bay.

Little puppy learning to manifest! Good Riddance Coffee Shop, Kommetjie. Photoart

How it should be..

Noordhoek.
